A Dearborn man has been implicated in the crime of human trafficking, following the discovery of a Brazilian woman's body in Washtenaw County last year. The body of 42-year-old Suzan Ferreira was located in a field in the 7800 block of Earhart Road on June 30, 2024, six days after she had been reported missing, as detailed by a report from WXYZ. Fareed George Hajjar, 57, faces charges that include prostitution – transporting a person and facilitating travel for purposes of prostitution/human trafficking.
Prosecutors allege that Hajjar took Ferreira from her Novi hotel to engage in sexual acts for money. His home, situated on Hampton Court in Dearborn, became a focal point of the investigation. In a statement obtained by ClickOnDetroit, officials detailed that Hajjar allegedly transported the victim from a hotel in the 42000 block of Eleven Mile Road in Novi, to his residence on June 22, 2024.
The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office has filed these charges, emphasizing the legal consequences associated with these offenses. "I hope that these charges are a wakeup call to those who choose to commit crimes like the ones that we have charged today. We have not forgotten Ms. Ferreira," said Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy, as per details from CBS News Detroit.
The investigation into Ferreira's death is ongoing, though the Washtenaw County Medical Examiner has not yet determined the cause of death. As the legal process continues, Hajjar is expected to be arraigned on the charges tomorrow.
