After decades of uncertainty and fear, a break in multiple sexual battery cases has emerged from Jacksonville, Florida. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) has arrested 52-year-old Jason Blount following a robbery in Orange County. Blount's DNA, taken upon booking, matched that of an assailant in unsolved incidents from 2000 and 2002. This connection has finally allowed law enforcement to move to bring him to account for these heinous crimes.
JSO’s Special Assault Unit Cold Case Detective Cribbs was already diligently working these cold cases and was able to quickly proceed to formally charge Blount with three counts of sexual battery. The perpetrator, known to await and suddenly to attack women near their homes, carried out his crimes in a predatory fashion. His known methods included ambushing one victim while jogging and dragging another from her apartment to an undisclosed location, as stated in the JSO press release.
An additional victim, who was elderly at the time of the assault, has been posthumously identified. The sad truth that this victim lived her final years with the weight of unacknowledged and unresolved trauma adds another layer to the gravity of the suspect's actions. The detectives now hold a belief there may be an extended trail of victims stretching from Jacksonville to Orlando and potentially further, as detailed in the JSO statement.
Following Blount’s arrest, police are asking the public for help in identifying other possible victims.
