A bomb threat led to the evacuation of Deerbrook Mall yesterday afternoon, as shoppers exited the premises when a man claimed to have a bomb. According to Click2Houston, the incident began around 4 p.m. when the man walked into a Barnes & Noble bookstore and later proceeded into Deerbrook Mall with the same claim.
With the threat hanging in the air, Humble police responded by clearing the mall, deploying K9 units, and conducting an investigation. Currently searching for the suspect, the Humble Police Department, having walked into the mall, released a surveillance photo of him. No additional information regarding the suspect has been provided at this time.
The mall, situated off the Eastex Freeway near FM 1960, was declared clear by 7:30 p.m., with authorities confirming that no devices were found. As per a report by KHOU, the man made the threat before entering the mall, which sparked the emergency protocol.
The nature of the bomb threat was taken seriously and treated with caution by the police, despite not confirming the credibility of the threat. Efforts to apprehend the suspect, who police say left the mall after making the threat, are ongoing. Facing a charge of making a terroristic threat, once the suspect is apprehended, could serve as a strong deterrent against such actions. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the wake of the evacuation.
