Travelers in Colorado, take note: major roadwork is on the horizon for CO Highway 112 through Del Norte. According to CDOT, a stretch of this road between 1st Street and the US Highway 160 junction will be completely closed from July 7 at 6:30 a.m. through July 11 at 7 p.m. The closure affects both directions, and it's to facilitate resurfacing operations that include rail repairs, utility repairs, guardrail installation, and, of course, paving.
The impact on your commute could be significant, especially if you're traveling north or south between Saguache and Del Norte; the detour using US 285 through Monte Vista will tack on an additional 13 miles and roughly 26 minutes to your drive time per CDOT. Residents within the closure area will still have access, but everyone else should plan to take those detour routes, northbound traffic will head approximately 14 miles east on US 160 before detouring north on US 285 in Monte Vista, while southbound traffic will snag US 285 at the Gunbarrel Station then head west to Del Norte on US 160.
To prevent any surprises on the road, CDOT urges drivers to "know before you go"—this means checking out weather forecasts, travel impacts, and current road conditions ahead of time.
