A tragic accident at a DeLand garage claimed the life of a 71-year-old woman yesterday. The Volusia Sheriff’s Office reported that the woman was killed when a trailer door struck her in the head at an address on Hontoon Road near Lake Beresford, as ClickOrlando detailed.
According to WFTV, the accident occurred as a man, the woman's husband, was operating a winch system to lower the trailer's door. A cable snapped unexpectedly, and the door fell, resulting in fatal injuries to his wife. In a desperate attempt, the husband utilized a vehicle jack to free her after initially trying to lift the heavy door by hand.
The woman's identity has not been released, and officials did not provide further details surrounding the circumstances of this freak accident. The case remains under investigation as standard procedure for fatal incidents.
