The Taiwan-based electronics manufacturer, known for producing essential components in iPhones and various other tech staples, is laying down roots to the tune of $687 million for two new facilities. According to a press release put out by Denton County, this move is set to inject an impressive 888 new jobs into the local economy, with those positions boasting an average base salary of $63,000.
Fueling the economic fire, the county's decision to adopt a tax abatement agreement has set the stage for Wistron to quickly establish a foothold in the region. Denton County Judge Andy Eads described the investment as a pivotal milestone and anticipates the move will significantly strengthen our role in the rapidly expanding semiconductor supply chain. Meanwhile, politicians and constituents alike eagerly anticipate the promise of high-quality job opportunities—ones that might notably start to shape the community's professional landscape.
The two projected sites, one at 15200 Heritage Way and another at 14601 Mobility Way, have their development gears turning thanks to supported tax abatements. These fiscal incentives include a potential 50 percent abatement at Project Site 1 and a 40 percent cut at Site 2, if both sites are completed, per the terms highlighted by the county. These sites are poised to not only enlarge the job market but also elevate Denton's profile in tech manufacturing circles. Wistron's decision to plant itself firmly within Denton County was influenced by competitive offers from both El Paso and Fremont, California, yet Denton ultimately won out.
