The Mile-High City has just scored a goal in professional women's soccer, as Denver Summit FC has been christened as the name of the new National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) team set to kick off next year. The name and its accompanying crest were unveiled following considerable fan involvement, a testament to the area's zeal for the burgeoning sport and its commitment to engaging with its base.
Fans cast their votes earlier in the year for what would eventually become the team's moniker, with "Denver Summit FC" winning out over other contenders like "Denver Peak FC" and "Colorado 14ers FC," Denver7 reported. Alongside the name reveal, team president Jen Millet shared her enthusiasm. "We are pleased to unveil Denver Summit FC as our name and to share our crest and colors with Colorado and the world," she stated, as obtained by KDVR.
Designed by Matthew Wolff, who's notched his creative belt with work for numerous NWSL teams, the team's crest is an ode to Colorado's iconic landscape, mirroring the state's license plates with a palette of green and white mountains against a backdrop of red and yellow sky, a nod to picturesque Colorado sunsets, according to The Colorado Sun.
