This is far from the first violent incident to unfold at this specific stretch of Havana Street. Just last September, a fatal officer-involved shooting occurred at a gas station located at that same intersection after a 17-year-old called 911 threatening to shoot up the business and then charged responding officers, according to 9News reporting on that case.
The area has seen other serious police actions in recent years as well. In May 2024, an Aurora Police SWAT team shooting near East Alameda Avenue and South Havana Street wounded a fugitive wanted by Denver Police for attempted homicide, the Denver Gazette reported at the time.
