Last Wednesday, the DeSoto Police Department swiftly arrested a burglary suspect following a break-in at a local convenience store. According to a social media post by the DeSoto Police Department, the incident occurred around 1:45 A.M. on the 1500 block of N. Hampton Road.
The details are clear yet alarming: the burglar, scantily clad and brash, shattered the store's front door with a large rock, brazenly snatched various items, including cigarettes and alcohol, and attempted to vanish into the dark mantle of the night. A concerned witness maintained visual contact all the while relaying crucial information to police dispatch. Officers, propelled by the urgency of the crime, swooped into the scene in less than two minutes, finding the suspect across the street and recovering the pilfered goods.
Jerrade Dewayne Harris, identified by the DeSoto detectives, is the accused. Video evidence corroborated the witness's account, capturing Harris’ act of forcefully breaking into the store and sifting through the goods with what one imagines could only be a thief's hurried yet hopeful touch. The police have since charged Harris with Burglary of a Building, a State Jail Felony, signifying the gravity of his alleged nighttime venture.
