Over the weekend, Border Patrol agents in Detroit made a significant arrest involving two individuals from El Salvador following an altercation at a Sterling Heights hotel. One of the men, as per ClickOnDetroit, claimed to be a member of the notorious Mara Salvatrucha, or MS-13, with a 20-year prison sentence in his past for a murder conviction.
Further checks confirmed that the two men were illegally residing in the United States. Along with the arrest, a small quantity of crystal methamphetamine was seized by the authorities.
"This is a major win for the U.S. Border Patrol and the safety of our communities," said Detroit Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Javier Geronimo Jr. in a statement released by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Geronimo emphasized the importance of such operations in protecting towns and removing "violent criminals" from the country. The men are currently being processed for removal from the United States.
