The Michigan Gaming Control Board recently disclosed that Detroit's trio of casinos—the MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity Casino, and Hollywood Casino at Greektown—raked in $101.04 million in June revenue. As the numbers trickle in, a noticeable decline is spotted in various sectors compared to previous months. Despite this dip, the casinos still managed to pull in a hefty sum, with table games and slot machines contributing the lion's share of $100.38 million, and retail sports betting chipping in another $665,435. This financial snapshot, outlined in a report from the Michigan Gaming Control Board, sketches a mixed picture of the city's gaming industry for the month.
In the tussle for market dominance, the MGM Grand Detroit emerged at the top with a 48% share. MotorCity Casino trailed at a 31% slice of the pie, and Hollywood Casino at Greektown clutched on to 21%. When matched against last year's performance, table games and slots revenue seemed to slightly stumble, decreasing by 4.0% from June 2024 and also experiencing a more substantial 11% decrease when juxtaposed with May 2025, indicating a need to still closely watch how these enterprises will continue to adapt and strive in the coming months.
An in-depth look at the individual casino revenues also unmasks a mixed bag of gains and losses. The MGM Grand Detroit’s earnings were pegged at $48.43 million, marking a modest 0.6% reduction from last year, as per the Michigan Gaming Control Board. Meanwhile, MotorCity Casino saw revenue of $30.63 million, a down tick of 2.7%. The greatest slump came from Hollywood Casino at Greektown, which saw a 12.5% year-over-year decline, settling at $21.32 million in revenue.
In terms of obligations to the state, the casinos paid a collective $8.1 million in gaming taxes for June 2025, which is slightly down from the $8.5 million reported in June the prior year. The revenue from retail sports betting, though, seemed to have taken a harder hit, with gross receipts inching in at just over $666,000—a notable drop of 25.1% from June 2024, and nearly half less than the previous month of May 2025. Each casino's share of this downturn was parsed out, with MGM Grand Detroit generating $275,397 in retail sports betting revenue, MotorCity Casino following with $242,069, and Hollywood Casino at Greektown with $147,969. Taxes from this revenue segment contributed $25,153 to the state, and an additional $30,743 was remitted in wagering taxes to the City of Detroit.
