A Detroit man, Rolando Hunt Jr., found himself under arrest after a traffic stop led to the discovery of a hidden firearm inside his car. According to CBS News Detroit, the incident occurred in the early hours of June 24 near Van Dyke and 21 Mile Road in Shelby Township. The driver consented to a search of his silver Chrysler, which is when officers observed several loose panels that seemed out of place for the vehicle.

In a twist of what could be considered dubious luck, Officers discovered a .40 caliber semi-automatic Glock pistol stashed in a hidden compartment below the vehicle's radio. The attentive eye of law enforcement also unearthed a fully loaded magazine under a seat. None of these items were legally owned by Hunt, lacking both a concealed pistol license and proper registration. Following this find, Hunt was taken into custody.

The Shelby Township Police Department echoed the details of this event through a social media post by Macomb County Scanner. Their press release further confirmed that Hunt was arraigned later that day on a felony charge for carrying a concealed weapon, for which he was given a $5,000 personal bond and released from jail pending further proceedings.

Shelby Township's Chief of Police, Robert J. Shelide, took the opportunity to acknowledge his officers' efforts. "I want to take a moment and recognize the outstanding work of our officers that located a firearm hidden in a concealed compartment during a traffic stop," he stated. "This is exactly the type of police work that helps keep the streets of Shelby Township safer from criminals like this. Great instincts, great training, and great follow-through. I’m proud of the dedication and determination from our Shelby Township officers," as noted by Macomb County Scanner.
