A 22-year-old District of Columbia man, identified as Christopher Light, has been hit with a 90-month sentence in federal prison following his involvement in a violent crime spree that lasted less than a day but left a lasting impact on the city. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro announced the sentencing for the crimes which included a gunpoint carjacking and a series of armed robberies. Light's sentence also comes with a subsequent three-year period of supervised release.

Light had previously entered a guilty plea on March 24, 2025, to charges of carjacking and brandishing a firearm during a violent crime, as revealed in court documents released by the U.S. Attorney's Office. The severity of these crimes was highlighted by the involvement of weapons during the execution of these crimes. The ordeal began on February 4, 2024, around the evening hours when Light, along with a co-conspirator, confronted a man in the Wharf District parking lot.

At the time, wielding a handgun, Light and his partner, who was armed with an AR-style firearm escalated an already tense situation into a grave threat. They proceeded to rob their victim of an iPhone 15 Pro and two gold chains adorned with pendants, before fleeing in a stolen white Audi SUV.

The conviction of Light resulted from a coordinated effort among law enforcement agencies, as emphasized by Special Agent in Charge Anthony Spotswood of the ATF’s Washington Field Division and MPD Chief Pamela A. Smith, both of whom joined the U.S. Attorney in announcing the sentencing.
