The city is welcoming Diplo's Run Club to FDR Park, with the multi-genre music maestro himself, Diplo, spearheading the festivities. According to NBC Philadelphia, the event promises to combine a 5K run with a mini music festival vibe, thanks to live DJ sets and performances. As if Philadelphia wasn't already bustling with activities this weekend, what with the Savannah Bananas, Lucy Dacus, and Nas doing their thing, a run with beats in the backdrop is a nice switch-up.
While the run itself kicks off at 8:30 a.m., participants can catch A-Trak spinning at 9 a.m., followed by Diplo at 10 a.m. In a city that played a significant role in Diplo's career trajectory, this homecoming event is quite the nod to his roots. Diplo, a Temple grad, made it while cranking out beats in Philly before climbing up to the big league with hits for artists like Bieber and Queen B — with a few Grammys to his name. Kaitlin Heck, marketing director for Diplo's Run Club, highlighted Philadelphia's impact, stating, "So, this is really where he got his career kickoff," in an interview with NBC Philadelphia. As for the after-party, runners can look forward to their well-earned drinks, which, according to The Inquirer, sell like hotcakes as Diplo puts it: "You wouldn’t believe how many freaking drinks we sell." Quite the cherry on top for those who believe a good run deserves a cold one.
Now, for those not into the sampling of EDM with their morning jog, the city's packed with alternatives. CBS Philadelphia reports that the iconic Savannah Bananas will be in town with their Banana Ball antics. The Chinese Lantern Festival is lighting up Franklin Square, and for the stage-savvy, "Life of Pi" is still capturing audiences at the Academy of Music. The point is, Philly's got flavor this weekend, and it's serving up choices for all tastes, whether it's music, sports, or culture you're craving.
