
A tragic turn of events occurred yesterday when a driver was killed in a single-vehicle crash on John A. Merritt Boulevard in Nashville. The accident took place in front of Frederick S. Humphreys Hall on the campus of Tennessee State University. According to official reports from the Nashville Police Department, the vehicle involved was a Cadillac CTS.
The driver, identified as 67-year-old Kenneth Fulson, was driving northbound on 31st Avenue North. Witnesses stated, and the preliminary investigation confirms, that he sped through a stop sign at the crossing with John A. Merritt Boulevard. The car continued onto the sidewalk and eventually collided with a water main structure before making contact with the corner of a brick wall in front of Humphreys Hall. At the scene, law enforcement noted that the vehicle’s speedometer was locked at 60 miles per hour. Fulson, unfortunately, died at the scene of the accident.
Further investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing. As reported by the Nashville Police Department, "Toxicology testing will be conducted by the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine whether impairment played a role in this fatal crash."
