The incident began around 10:45 p.m. when Brighton officers attempted to stop a black Dodge Charger observed driving recklessly on W. Grand River Avenue, as reported by Click on Detroit. The driver failed to yield, leading to a pursuit across multiple streets where the suspect tried to avoid capture by driving on W. Grand River Avenue to Beaver Street, continued on N. East Street, then onto Flint Road, Hilton Road, and finally Old US-23, according to a FOX 2 Detroit article.
The chase culminated when the Charger, attempting to overtake another vehicle by entering the northbound lanes on US-23, sideswiped the southbound vehicle while trying to merge back and spun, leading to a collision with another vehicle that was going northbound, subsequently causing the suspect's car to roll over. This information was confirmed by The Detroit News from local authorities. The police have stated that the sole occupant and driver of the suspect vehicle was declared dead at the scene, while the sideswiped vehicle's driver was uninjured, and the driver of the vehicle hit in the northbound lane endured minor injuries and was transported to a medical facility for care.
