Early morning quiet in Duluth was interrupted as a structure fire pulled firefighters into action at a residence on Wednesday. The Duluth Fire Department was summoned to the scene after a 3:47 AM emergency call. According to a statement from the department, units from West Duluth, Lincoln Park, and Downtown were quick to respond to the distress.
Reports from homeowners and a Duluth Police Officer indicated a smell of smoke and visible smoke emerging from the roof prior to the firefighters' arrival. On reaching the site, the first responders from Station 8 observed light smoke output from the roof. Inside, crews moved swiftly to the attic where the fire was actively engaging the structure. "Crews advanced a hoseline to the attic and quickly extinguished the fire," detailed the official report.
Afterwards, firefighting personnel dedicated approximately three hours to meticulous work, prying open the attic and stripping away insulation. This exhaustive effort was to ensure that no embers remained to reignite the blaze. The residents of the house managed to evacuate without harm—a fortunate end to what might have been a tragic ordeal. "No injuries were reported and all occupants exited the home on their own," further confirmed the fire department's release.
The investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway, with damages from the incident estimated to be between $10,000 and $15,000. In a display of interagency cooperation, the Fire Department extended gratitude to St. Louis County Dispatch and the Duluth Police Department, citing the importance of their assistance in the emergency response and subsequent operations.
