The trial involving the tragic death of East Valley teenager Preston Lord faces yet more delays. Originally set to commence this month, the proceedings for six suspects accused of involvement in Lord's death have now been postponed until January 2026. This development comes as lawyers requested additional time to sift through an extensive cache of evidence related to the case. In a statement obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix, it was revealed that a judge made the decision to reschedule the trial last Monday.
Back in October 2023, Lord, then 16, was found severely beaten outside a Halloween party in Queen Creek and later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. A total of seven individuals were arrested in connection with the crime. William Hines is thus far the only suspect to have been sentenced, after he accepted a plea deal in May this year, which led to a 12-year prison term. According to a report by AZFamily, Hines admitted to kicking Lord at least once during the assault.
The other suspects, namely Treston Billey, Dominic Turner, Taylor Sherman, Talan Renner, Talyn Vigil, and Jacob Meisner, are yet to have their day in court. Court documents highlighted by AZFamily suggest a gold chain, stolen from a friend of Lord's, to have been a catalyst for the deadly confrontation.
In addition to the murder conviction, Hines received a separate five-year sentence for vehicular aggravated assault, with the two sentences to be served consecutively. Unlike his co-defendants, a couple of months ago, Jacob Meisner's attorneys declined a plea deal, standing firm on his proclaimed innocence regarding Lord's death, as per statements in the AZFamily article.
