The Eden Prairie Police Department has sworn in two new officers to their ranks, with Chief Matt Sackett officiating the ceremony. The fresh additions to the force are officers Paxton Pagel and Jacek Hummel, both of whom bring a solid background of education and training to their new roles, as detailed in a post on the Eden Prairie Police Department's official blog.
Pagel is a Rochester Century High School alum who went on to secure a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement from Minnesota State University, Mankato. He got his law enforcement certificate after completing the Minnesota North Hibbing Skills program. The department has hopes that Pagel's previous two-year tenure as a part-time community service officer for Mankato Public Safety will stand to significantly benefit the Eden Prairie community.
His counterpart, Officer Hummel, boasts an academic record that includes a double major in criminal justice and psychology from North Dakota State University, complemented by a law enforcement certificate from Alexandria Technical and Community College. Both officers will not immediately begin to patrol independently, but rather, will first undergo a rigorous 3-4 months field training program tailored by the department.
In the coming months, the community can expect to see Pagel and Hummel gradually start taking on more responsibilities on their own as they complete their field training and become fully integrated members of the Eden Prairie police force. The EPPD has expressed confidence in their new officers, pointing to their blend of local upbringing and tailored higher education as assets in their engagement with local policing challenges. As they complete their training, Pagel and Hummel are stepping into a community eager to witness their contributions to public safety.
