A tragic incident disrupted the peace of a Denver community over the weekend when a head-on collision claimed the life of a 73-year-old woman and left an 18-year-old man injured. WBTV reports that the accident took place yesterday afternoon around 2:40 p.m. on Beth Haven Church Road near Blue Sky Drive, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
An 18-year-old, identified by QC News as Jomar Lamont Talbert II from Iron Station, was driving a Cadillac Escalade southward when the vehicle veered across the centerline. It crashed head-on into a northbound Nissan Frontier, operated by Shelia Honeycutt Ballard of Catawba, who succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Reports indicated that Ballard was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. Following the crash, the roadway was closed for about an hour while the authorities conducted their investigation.
Authorities have revealed that neither speed nor impairment were considered as contributing factors to the devastating crash. However, charges are pending as the investigation continues. This has been confirmed by several outlets, including WSOCTV, which mentioned that charges would depend on the results of the ongoing investigation.
Meanwhile, Talbert II is recovering from minor injuries sustained in the collision that took place under the clear skies of a seemingly ordinary Saturday afternoon.
