Winnemucca pedestrians can expect enhanced safety features as the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) begins installing new pedestrian crossing beacons and other improvements. Starting on July 28, Winnemucca Boulevard and Fourth Street will undergo lane and sidewalk closures to make way for this critical project. According to a release from the Nevada Department of Transportation, the area will see intermittent disruptions from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on weekdays with possible extensions into evening and overnight hours.

The busy intersections of West Winnemucca Boulevard and West Fourth Street, along with West Winnemucca Boulevard at Lay Street, and East Winnemucca Boulevard at Haskell Street/Fairgrounds Road will experience the bulk of these disruptions. Motorists should expect one-time road closures that could last up to 15 minutes as signal arms are put into place overhead. Despite the expected delays, motorists are advised to make time allowances and maintain safe driving practices through these zones.

Enhancements planned within the project include the installation of electronic rapid flashing pedestrian crossing beacons, which pedestrians will be able to activate to stop traffic as they cross the street. Additional street lighting and pedestrian ramps are also on the docket, targeting areas where lighting and accessibility have been noted as insufficient.
