Early Thursday morning, a routine patrol took a turn at Skinner Butte Park in Eugene, Oregon. An officer, engaged in overtime work dedicated to enforcing park rules, encountered two individuals encamped within a vehicle. It’s reported that an assortment of illegal substances and a loaded firearm were found during this interaction. The Eugene Police Department says that the sight of psilocybin mushrooms and marijuana in plain view prompted a search, ultimately uncovering a significant stash of drugs.
Police arrested 19-year-old Logan Michael Siddons, who was discovered along with the contraband. According to the Eugene Police Department's official press release, the search yielded about 3.78 pounds of psilocybin mushrooms, more than 24 grams of cocaine, over 198 grams of Butane Hash Oil, approximately 1.69 pounds of marijuana, 31 Xanax bars, and a loaded handgun with ammunition. Siddons now faces charges that include unlawful possession of a firearm and several drug offenses indicative of a commercial venture in narcotics.
The incident spotlights the ongoing challenges law enforcement faces in park spaces, often seen as tranquil refuges but not immune to the city's wider issues. The items recovered suggest a level of organization in drug distribution activities. Packaging materials were found alongside the drugs, indicating a readiness for sale and distribution, emphasized the police.
In addition to drug and firearm charges, Siddons has been hit with a violation of park rules. Working to keep the public areas safe, law enforcement has restricted Siddons from all city parks and open spaces in Eugene. Siddons is currently being held at Lane County Jail as the consequences of his alleged actions begin to unfold.
