An Eustis father, Dexter Neal, is being held in jail following a tragic incident where his 5-year-old son accidentally shot himself in the head. The shooting, which occurred on June 29 within the family's home, has left the community grappling with the consequences of unsecured firearms and the subsequent effects on children's safety. According to WFTV, the boy was rushed to Arnold Palmer Hospital, where he continues to recover from surgery.
Responding to the incident, first responders arrived at a scene that was hastily being tended to by a neighbor, a flight trauma nurse, who, together with her husband, found the wounded child lying on a parked vehicle, and they provided immediate assistance.
While Neal faces charges including child neglect and culpable negligence, FOX 35 Orlando reported that the Eustis Police Department arrested the 49-year-old nearly a month after the shooting occurred.
