The Fairfield County Sheriff's Office has brought a suspect into custody connected to a case of horrifying sexual assault involving minors. According to the Fairfield County Sheriff's Office, a press release by Sheriff Alex W. Lape, Rick Eugene Hawley, who worked maintenance at 2715 Sugar Grove Road, now stands accused of multiple instances of abuse.
This arrest follows a report made to the Sheriff's Office regarding inappropriate touching by Mr. Hawley. The detail of the accusation emerges grim and unsettling. A forensic interview with the victim conducted at the Harcum House, a Child Advocacy Center (CAC), helped to piece together the allegations. On June 17, additional victims were interviewed and their stories paralleled the initial report with disclosures of repeated sexual abuse, supposedly occurring on several occasions.
The repercussions for Hawley commenced in early June when he was first arrested on June 11 and charged with Sexual Imposition as per the Ohio Revised Code 2907.06. "On July 2, 2025, he was again arrested without incident and charged with one count of Rape (Ohio Revised Code 2907.02)," the Fairfield County Sheriff's Office disclosed. With the investigation still very much active, authorities are holding back further details, especially considering the delicate status of the young victims involved.
Community response has been swift and severe, with the Sheriff's Office making it clear that while there is no immediate threat to the public at large, their duty to safeguard all residents, "especially our most vulnerable," remains undiminished. The Fairfield County Sheriff's Office is actively seeking and encouraging anyone with information relevant to the case to come forward, offering a means to do so anonymously via their contact number.
