Last Thursday's late afternoon commute turned tragic on Interstate 820 in Haltom City, as a high-speed collision claimed the life of a driver and resulted in temporary road closures. According to an official statement from the Haltom City Police Department, emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene of the accident in the eastbound express lanes around 6:30 PM.
The preliminary investigation, outlined in the police department's social media post, recounts how an adult male, driving a Dodge Charger, crashed into the rear of a stationary work truck's trailer at high speeds. After the collision, a fire erupted in the Charger, leading to the driver's immediate death. The identity and the specifics of the death are to be established by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office. The driver of the Charger was pronounced deceased on site, while the individual behind the wheel of the work truck sustained minor injuries from debris, and two others, present outside the truck, were unharmed.
As a result of the accident, the eastbound toll lanes of I-820 were closed to traffic, causing delays and requiring drivers to seek other routes. Haltom City authorities updated the public regarding the lane reopening through the same social media channel. An update followed recently, notifying drivers that the eastbound toll lanes were once again open for travel.
