Tragedy struck the Eckington neighborhood of Northeast when a fatal shooting claimed the life of a young woman and left a man injured last Saturday night. Officers from the Fifth District were called to the 100 block of T Street, Northeast, around 11:03 p.m., after receiving reports of gunshots, as reported by the Metropolitan Police Department.

Upon arrival, they discovered 23-year-old Zarie Williams, from Northwest, DC, who had sustained gunshot wounds; sadly, despite efforts to save her life, she was pronounced dead at the scene, the Metropolitan Police confirmed. Subsequently, an adult male victim arrived at a local hospital on his own, he was conscious and breathing, suffering from a gunshot wound which detectives have linked to the same incident on T Street. The victim is currently receiving treatment and is expected to recover from what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

The shooting is still under investigation, and police have not released any suspect information. Authorities are asking anyone with information to come forward to help solve the case and bring closure to the victim's family.
