The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has taken into custody ex-deputy Robert Allen Kline following allegations of excessive force during an arrest. Charged with Aggravated Assault and Violation of Oath of Office, the 51-year-old former law enforcement officer from Lexington now sits amid the sobering consequences of power misused, as per the GBI release.
The investigation first unfolded when the Greene County Sheriff's Office, after a Sunday's incident in which Kline tased a handcuffed DUI suspect, called upon the GBI this past Monday for assistance, the GBI's subsequent probe led to the arrest yesterday; Kline's career in law enforcement unceremoniously ending in the very corridors he once patrolled as he was booked into the Greene County Sheriff's Office.
Digging deeper into the perturbing facts of the night in question, it appears that Greene County deputies had initially responded to a vehicle wreck, culminating in an arrest on driving under the influence charges, Kline then, deploying a taser against the restrained individual, now faces serious questions about his conduct and the trust placed in him by the community and his badge.
With the authorities still piecing together the strands of this case, the GBI encourages any person possessing insights into the matter to reach out. Information can be confidentially relayed through various channels: a call to the Regional Investigative Office in Milledgeville at 478-445-4173, submitting anonymously online, or via the See Something, Send Something mobile app; the links and numbers for these resources can be found on the GBI's official website. Once the GBI concludes its inquiry into this troubling event, the resultant findings will be turned over to the Ocmulgee District Attorney’s office.
