A former Monroe County paramedic has been charged with child pornography offenses, according to federal court documents. Nathan Lee Westbrook, 27, was implicated in the possession and distribution of illegal material following a tip to law enforcement regarding activity on the social media platform KiK. An affidavit accessed by WVLT News stated that Westbrook's email was associated with an account that shared six video files depicting child pornography, one of which was transmitted as recently as December 28, 2024.
Investigations, which began in February, traced the IP address linked to the messages back to Westbrook's apartment in Knoxville. According to court documents cited by WATE, after a federal search warrant was executed on July 11, Westbrook confirmed that the contentious materials were found on his devices, and he clarified that no other individuals had access to his computer or phone.
In light of the charges, Monroe County EMS promptly terminated Westbrook's employment. Monroe County EMS Director Randy White expressed the service's stance, emphasizing the actions of a single person do not represent the entire workforce. "The actions of one individual do not reflect the integrity and dedication of the hardworking men and women of Monroe County EMS," White said in a statement reported by 991 The Sports Animal. "We hold all staff to the highest professional and ethical standards, and we remain committed to serving the public with honor and accountability."
Monroe County Mayor Mitch Ingram weighed in on the gravity of the situation, highlighting community welfare and the legal process. “This situation is deeply concerning, and while Mr. Westbrook is entitle to due process under the law, the safety and trust of our community remain our top priorities,” said Ingram. He assured the public of the county's cooperation with the investigation and the commitment to transparency, as mentioned in reports by both WVLT News and 991 The Sports Animal.
Westbrook is currently being held at the Blount County Justice Center and is scheduled for a detention hearing on Thursday. The investigation into this case continues as authorities delve further into the origins and spread of the content associated with Westbrook's online activities.
