A garbage truck spill has unleashed a large quantity of fuel across a section of Route 19 in Bethel Park, affecting traffic and prompting road closures. The incident led to the shutdown of the southbound lanes between Abbeyville Road and Highland Road, as reported by WPXI.
According to the Bethel Park Volunteer Fire Company, the road may remain closed for an unspecified period while cleanup crews work to remove the hazardous material thoroughly. The same incident has also resulted in traffic restrictions on Highland Road between Route 19 and Oxford Drive. The fire company indicated that these restrictions are put in place to allow workers to systematically manage the cleanup effort safely.
Bethel Park police have become involved, redirecting traffic and issuing advisories to local drivers.
