The annual observance of Black Business Week commenced with a flourish at George Floyd Square—with a local showcase titled "Legacy on the Block: A Black Business Showcase." The event, held from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on July 24th, was a vibrant congregation of artisans, entrepreneurs, and community members celebrating the rich diversity of Black-owned businesses, art, and culture. George Floyd Square, a site that has come to symbolize both a collective grief and a renewed vigor for justice and equity, provided the backdrop for a host of events including the Black Business Experience, which invited attendees to tour local establishments, sample delicacies at the Black Food Vendor Court, and participate in a meal prep activity for Sabathani—one of the event's organizers along with Healthy Roots Institute, City Foods Studio, Plot Gallery, Agape Movement, and CANDO. The event extended into the evening with a vendor and resource fair at The Square Event Center and a community spotlight featuring the Neighborhood Development Center.
The heart of the event pulsed strongest during the panel discussion on "Building Legacy," which took place at The Square Event Center from 5 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. Panelists dissected the pillars of sustainable business within the community, aiming to sow the seeds of long-term prosperity.
