In a move that shores up the judiciary in Creek County, Governor Kevin Stitt has tapped Robert J. Getchell to preside as the district judge for Office 1 of the 24th Judicial District. The announcement made yesterday cited Getchell's nearly four-decade span of legal expertise and his reputed fairness as key factors in his selection. Governor Stitt was quoted, saying, "Robert's successful career in private practice has earned him a stellar reputation— honorable, level-headed and fair."
With his legal practice deeply rooted in the real estate sector, Getchell, serving as a shareholder at GableGotwals, proved his proficiency in transactional real estate spanning two decades. Although specializing in such areas, he didn’t shirk from litigation, having defended various clients in state courts, including some of the nation's largest financial institutions. As a staff attorney and general counsel for title companies, his role was no less significant than his expertise in litigation, which has won him prestigious accolades such as Lawyer of the Year for real estate.
Getchell’s dedication to his craft is reflected in the words he offered upon his appointment. "This appointment is a tremendous honor and I’m grateful to Governor Stitt for the opportunity to serve the state that I love," said Getchell according to the announcement on the Office of Governor website. He added, "I’ve spent my career fighting for fairness in the courtroom, and I’m ready to bring that same dedication to the bench."
Getchell's academic background, having earned both a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Juris Doctor from Oral Roberts University, underpins his professional acumen. Settled in the Tulsa area for over four decades with his wife Christie and their eight children, Getchell's notoriety hasn't just been contained within the local community—recognized with the Best Lawyer Award for Bankruptcy and Creditor-Debtor Rights for seven years in a row has marked him out as a trusted figure in the legal landscape statewide.
