Oklahoma City is heading into a dangerous stretch of late-summer heat, with clear skies and temperatures in the mid-70s early Sunday giving way to an afternoon high near 104 degrees. A Heat Advisory is in effect Sunday afternoon as the heat index could reach 108, and Monday looks even hotter. Rain chances remain limited for now, but storm possibilities return later in the week.

Heat Advisory Covers Sunday Afternoon

The advisory runs from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday across Oklahoma City and much of central Oklahoma, according to the National Weather Service. East-southeast winds near 9 mph will offer little relief from the heat, with mostly sunny skies and only a 5% chance of rain.

Officials recommend drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air conditioning, avoiding direct sun and checking on older adults, neighbors and anyone vulnerable to heat illness. Outdoor plans will be safest early in the day, before temperatures surge into the upper 90s and triple digits.

Monday Brings Even More Heat

This is a sharper turn in the forecast than the earlier stretch covered by Hoodline, with Monday now expected to reach 106 degrees and a heat index as high as 109. Southwest winds around 12 mph could gust to 21 mph, adding another hazard for people working or exercising outside.

Tuesday should ease slightly but remain hot, with a mostly sunny high near 101. Overnight lows will stay in the mid-to-upper 70s, meaning homes and bodies may get little chance to cool down after each hot day.

Storm Chances Return Tuesday Night

A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms arrives Tuesday night and continues into Wednesday morning, with a 20% chance of rain. The National Weather Service also says stronger storms could develop across north-central Oklahoma late Sunday into Monday morning, where damaging wind gusts would be the main concern.

Wednesday should be mostly sunny with a high near 95, followed by highs near 96 Thursday, 98 Friday and 99 Saturday. The week will trend cooler than the Sunday-Monday peak, but temperatures will remain well above normal and mostly dry across Oklahoma City.
