Sunday Heat Advisory Covers The Afternoon
A Heat Advisory covers Sunday from noon to 8 p.m., when the heat index could reach 108 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. The local forecast calls for sunny skies, a high near 101 and heat index values around 104, with south-southwest winds of 9 to 13 mph and gusts up to 20 mph.
Sunday night will stay clear and warm, with temperatures only falling to around 79 degrees. The heat index could remain as high as 102 during the evening, so outdoor plans may still feel oppressive well after sunset.
Triple-Digit Highs Continue Through Thursday
Monday and Tuesday are both forecast to reach 100 degrees, followed by a high near 101 on Wednesday and another 101-degree afternoon Thursday. Winds will remain southerly and occasionally breezy, while rain chances stay near zero through most of the week.
Friday offers only a modest break, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 97. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms arrives late Friday night into early Saturday, but Saturday is otherwise expected to be mostly sunny with another high near 97.
Heat Safety Remains The Priority
Residents should drink plenty of fluids, limit time in direct sun and use air conditioning when possible. The City of Oklahoma City maintains heat-health resources and information about cooling centers, and officials recommend checking on older adults, neighbors and anyone especially vulnerable to heat illness.
