A case of child endangerment occurred earlier this week when a 9-year-old boy was found unattended in a parking lot in Harris County. According to deputies from Constable Mark Herman's Office, a welfare check was carried out last Saturday in the 3800 block of Atascocita Road, situated in the Cricket Wireless parking lot. Reports came from concerned employees who witnessed the child alone for an extended period.
The young boy, found wandering by himself, expressed to officials that he had been awaiting the return of his mother for at least two hours. A review of witness statements and video surveillance indicated that his isolation spanned longer than the child's claim. Following the investigation, deputies reached out to Markeisha Cartwright, the child’s mother. Regardless of being informed about her son's situation, she reportedly delayed coming back to the scene.
Cartwright eventually returned to where her son was found. She was promptly arrested and is facing charges of Child Endangerment. "Markeisha Cartwright was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, charged with Child Endangerment," confirmed Constable Mark Herman in a statement detailed on the Precinct 4 Facebook page. He further stressed that "The safety of every child in our community remains a top priority."
The 9-year-old was checked by EMS and fortunately released to his father, unharmed from the incident. Child Protective Services has also been notified and is up to speed on the details surrounding the event.
