Jason Ganaway, a detective with the Harris County Sheriff's Office, is facing charges after a reported road rage incident in May on FM 529 near Hwy 99 in Katy. He is accused of pointing a gun at a teenage driver. Court records show that Ganaway first said he did not speak to the teen but later said he "might have thrown his hands up and said, ‘what’s up?’" Surveillance footage appears to support the teen’s version of events. The teen described the gun in detail, while Ganaway said he owned a similar weapon but claimed he left it at home that day, according to Click2Houston.
Authorities are investigating a late-night incident on May 25 involving a teen driver and an off-duty officer, Ganaway. The teen told ABC13 he was driving near Westgreen just after midnight when Ganaway, in a black Camaro, allegedly reacted to a lane change by showing a firearm. The vehicles continued east until the teen turned onto Fry Road. During questioning, Ganaway first denied any confrontation, later said he asked, "Man, what's up?" and then stated he said, "What the (expletive) is your problem?" He denied having a gun during the incident.
After a review by the District Attorney's Office, Jason Ganaway was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on Friday. He was released after posting a $10,000 bond. A booking photo was not provided. The Harris County Sheriff's Office confirmed that Ganaway has been relieved of duty while the investigation continues.
