The National Weather Service in Milwaukee is keeping an eye on the skies as they have issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the coming week for parts of Wisconsin. The forecast, updated last at 318 AM CDT today, July 20, warns of moderate risks and upcoming heat waves that could roast the region.
For coastal residents and beach-goers, the NWS advises caution. With a moderate swim risk placed for the shores of Racine and Kenosha counties, currents and breaking waves could spell trouble. "Stay away from dangerous areas like piers, breakwalls, and river outlets," the NWS warns. Along with the breeze and the humidity settling in, today's temperature is expected to climb gradually with a high near 73 degrees and northeast winds around 10 mph, easing up the overcast morning.
Starting Tuesday, the skies will grow more tumultuous, with chances of thunderstorms rolling in by nightfall and intensifying into Thursday. Those looking skyward should anticipate a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 pm on Thursday, escalating to a 50 percent chance come nightfall.
Breaking into the second half of the week, the weather service is forecasting a spike in temperatures, heralding the onset of a scorching heat wave. "Heat index values will likely exceed 100 degrees on Wednesday, with some areas seeing above 105 degree heat index values," the NWS cautions. Residents, urged to stay hydrated and avoid strenuous outdoor activity, will have to navigate temperatures where the warmth won't just be visible but deeply felt.
While Wisconsinites are well-versed in weather that ranges from freezing temperatures to sweltering heat, the rest of the week's outlook serves as a reminder to prepare for Mother Nature's caprices. No spotter activation is needed as of now, but the situation remains fluid, akin to the unpredictable winds that whisk through the Great Lakes region.
