Following a rigorous six-month investigation into a fatal assault in Riverside that occurred in January, authorities have made a significant breakthrough. 25-year-old Johnathen Amezola of Hemet, identified by the Riverside Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit and assisted by the Riverside County District Attorney's Office Gang Impact Team, was arrested and charged with murder on July 6, 2025.
The investigation stemmed from an incident on the 1800 block of Normandy Court, where a 20-year-old Raul Solorio was found dead following an assault. In a devastating twist for the tight-knit community, a juvenile was also injured in the same incident, suffering a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Office, the juvenile later received treatment at a local hospital. Amezola is currently being held at the Robert Presley Detention Center.
The case, which has shaken the Riverside community, first came into the public eye when deputies responded to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon at around 1:11 a.m. on January 12th. The Riverside Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit, which took up the case, has since been piecing together the events that led to Solorio’s death.
