Henderson is stepping up its game to make Boulder Highway safer and more user-friendly for those on foot and on two wheels. Following a public walkability study last year, the city's now rolling out Phase II of the Connecting Communities initiative – an effort to transform the way residents interact with one of their busiest thoroughfares. According to an announcement on the City of Henderson's official website, locals can voice their opinions through a newly launched survey available from Tuesday to August 15.
The survey is part of an active push to ensure the community's needs are front and center. By gathering input, the city aims to truly boost walkability and cyclist safety with proposed upgrades. And to get a closer, more personal look at the potential changes, there's an open house scheduled for July 30 at the America First Center from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m, where individuals can directly engage with project staff.
This initiative builds on the groundwork laid down by Jeff Speck, a noted urban designer who led last September's walkability audit. His expertise, coupled with the participation of over 165 residents, pinpointed the crucial areas ripe for improvement. Public response is critical, as the city is looking to shape a plan reflective of real-world needs and expectations, with adoption slated for early 2026.
This dual approach, offering both an online platform and a face-to-face opportunity, exemplifies the city's commitment to creating a shared vision for its streets.
