Early this morning in Monroe County, sheriff's deputies recovered two out of three stolen Jeep Wranglers after a high-speed chase that drew across state lines from Ohio. According to CBS News Detroit, the local authorities were alerted around 1 a.m. about the stolen vehicles potentially entering Michigan. Deputies swiftly positioned themselves along Interstate 75, only to later find the vehicles speeding along South Telegraph Road, US-24. The Monroe Public Safety Department initially engaged in the pursuit before Monroe County deputies took the lead as the chase stretched beyond city limits.
The sheriff's office detailed that one Jeep proceeded to speed westbound off Bluebush Road with its headlights off, veering off-road and eventually halting behind a house. The driver eluded capture by making his escape into a wooded area. Meanwhile, the other Jeep was discovered after it strayed into thick vegetation off I-75 and Newport Road, where the driver similarly absconded on foot, as reported by 13ABC. Despite efforts from various law enforcement agencies, including Monroe County's Drone Team and K-9 Unit, the suspects remain at large.
As of now, both recovered Jeeps have been towed from their resting places, while the whereabouts of the third vehicle continue to elude authorities. The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is actively seeking information from the public and has invited tips through their direct line at 734-240-7530, or anonymously via Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP or their website, as stated by WTOL.
This ongoing investigation continues under the watch of Deputy Sheriffs Brent Thomas and Andrew Boski, as deputies from Monroe County have suggested that anyone with potentially pertinent information should not hesitate to come forward. The agencies involved underscore the significance of community assistance in cases like these, augmented by interdepartmental collaboration, which, in this instance, included support from the South Rockwood Police Department, Michigan State Police, along with the previously mentioned Monroe County units.
