The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) has since arrested 21-year-old Honduran national, Roberto Carlos Meza Rosales, as the suspect in the crash.
Following the collision, Meza Rosales reportedly fled the scene but was located and detained by deputies within hours. Law enforcement officials indicated that Meza Rosales showed signs of alcohol impairment, a fact corroborated by WTSP, who also mentioned that alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash. Meza Rosales, who has been in the U.S. without legal authorization since 2018, is facing a charge of leaving the scene of a crash involving death; according to HCSO, more charges may follow.
