As the city of Honolulu continues to grapple with traffic fatalities, with a harrowing tally of 45 lives claimed this year alone, the Honolulu Police Department remains steadfast in its commitment to road safety. In their latest bid to keep the roads clear of impaired drivers, HPD's Traffic Division's Night Enforcement Unit carried out sobriety checkpoints on O‘ahu that saw 408 drivers screened in a span of a little over an hour on July 24, as reported by the local authorities.

These checkpoints, as stated by a Honolulu Police Department release, were conducted at two vital junctures of the island—serving testament to the police's relentless pursuit of safer streets. Along Farrington Highway in Waipahu, 117 vehicles were stopped, where officers were responsible for issuing 10 citations, mostly for driving without a valid license, arresting two impaired drivers, one habitual OVUII offender, and embarking on three additional arrests for other offenses.

In a parallel crackdown on Keeaumoku Street in Makiki, where 291 vehicles were taken under the discerning eyes of law enforcement, the operation culminated in three citations and two arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol. The Honolulu Police Department, amassing 1,044 impaired driving arrests thus far this year, urges the community to join forces with them in the crusade against impaired driving.
