
A joint law enforcement effort has led to the apprehension of a Houma man on charges related to the sexual exploitation of a minor, a move that highlights the systemic efforts to address crimes against children in Louisiana. Jacob Parfait, 42, was arrested on July 25, after the Louisiana State Police Special Victims Unit (LSP SVU), alongside the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, conducted operations targeting individuals involved in such acts.
The agencies, acting on investigative leads, allege that Parfait planned to travel from Houma to Grand Isle with the purported goal to engage in sexual intercourse with a minor and when LSP SVU detectives, with the assistance of the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office made the arrest at his address they were executing the outcome of investigative rigor which spanned multiple jurisdictions and showcased the importance of inter-agency cooperation. According to Louisiana State Police, Parfait now faces several charges including one count of Computer-Aided Solicitation of a Minor, Indecent Behavior with a Juvenile, and Attempted Carnal Knowledge of a Juvenile, he was processed into the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex subsequent to these events.
This case is part of a larger initiative by the LSP SVU to combat crimes against children, including human trafficking for sex or labor, the unit has a history of not only arresting suspects but also engaging in victim rescue and recovery, the public is often called upon to aid these efforts by reporting any suspicious or criminal activity related to the exploitation of minors. Using the state police's online system, individuals can submit anonymous tips that go directly to the investigators dealing with these sensitive cases.
