Houston authorities have apprehended Chaizon Myson Young, a 22-year-old suspected in a deadly hit-and-run incident, according to a news release from the Houston Police Department. Young now faces charges related to a crash that claimed the life of 23-year-old Oscar Garcia in a late-night car meet-up gone tragically wrong.
As Sergeant D. Thompson and Officer Y. Ramirez from the HPD Vehicular Crimes Division report, it was around 12:05 a.m. yesterday when the incident unfolded at an industrial park located at 8501 North Loop East; a myriad of cars and their drivers had been performing stunts while onlookers filmed. Then, an unfortunate sequence of events took place whereby one person capturing the scene on video stumbled, and the red Dodge Charger driven by Young collided with Garcia, pinning him beneath the vehicle. Though another individual managed to free Garcia using a jack, Young fled without providing assistance after the collision, as reported by the City of Houston News.
After being extricated from under the car, Garcia was attended to by Houston Fire Department paramedics, who pronounced him dead at the scene. In the aftermath, intensive investigation efforts led police to Young's residence in the 7100 block of Garnet Hill Lane, where both the suspect and the vehicle involved were found.
Young, who is now in custody, has been officially charged with failure to stop and render aid following an accident involving death. The Houston Police Department has confirmed his arrest and subsequent booking into the Harris County Jail. Authorities have stated that the investigation into this tragic incident remains active and ongoing.
