A suspect has been arrested and charged following a fatal traffic accident in the 9900 block of Westpark Drive. The incident, which took place early Tuesday morning, involved a white Chevrolet Impala and a black Ford F-450. According to a report obtained by the City of Houston News, the driver of the Chevrolet, Wilian Lopez Fonseca, has been charged with intoxication manslaughter.

Fonseca, 30, is currently being treated in a hospital for minor injuries sustained during the collision, and as of yet, a booking photo is not available. Information from the Houston Police Department Vehicular Crimes Division suggests that Fonseca was traveling at a high rate of speed, failed to maintain a single lane, and subsequently collided with the Ford. Additionally, it was determined that Lopez Fonseca was impaired at the time of the crash.

The HPD report indicated that there were three occupants inside the Chevrolet at the time of the crash. The driver suffered minor injuries, while a female front passenger was similarly injured. Tragically, a female back passenger was transported to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased. The identity of the deceased is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. The occupants of the Ford F-450, which was also involved in the incident, did not sustain any injuries.

Officers at the scene noted that the Impala may have been racing another vehicle, identified as a pink INFINITI Q50, which was found abandoned near the crash site. The ongoing investigation, in consultation with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, has resulted in swift charges against Fonseca for his role in the fatal event.
