A man has been arrested and charged with the murder of another man in an apartment at 15335 Park Row Drive this past Saturday, Houston police said. The suspect, identified as John Caya Byrd, 26, has been charged with murder in the 497th State District Court, according to the City of Houston News.
The victim, 34-year-old Carlos Benjamin, was found unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds around 12:45 p.m. by officers who responded to a call about a shooting. Byrd reportedly admitted to the shooting of his brother following an argument, which led to his arrest by patrol officers on the scene; however, specifics about the argument have not been detailed.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant B. Roberts and Detective M. Althaus have taken lead on the investigation. Paramedics from the Houston Fire Department pronounced Benjamin dead at the scene. Following the arrest, Byrd was taken into custody, interviewed by detectives, and subsequently charged and transported to the Harris County Jail.
