A Houston man is currently recuperating in a local hospital after being struck by gunfire in an overnight incident. The shooting occurred while he was performing the somber task of burying a family pet—a guinea pig—in his backyard, as reported by Click2Houston.
The Houston Police Department stated they responded to the disturbance just around 12:30 a.m. today in the 7700 block of Belgard Street. Upon their arrival, they discovered the victim, an adult male who had suffered a gunshot wound to the torso. Efforts were promptly made to quickly transport the victim to a nearby hospital, where he has been listed in stable condition. The man was accompanied by his younger brother during the time of the incident, detailing a tragic night where domestic tranquility was shattered by a neighbor's sudden act of violence, according to an account obtained by Fox26Houston.
Post-shooting, HPD officers secured the scene and approached the neighboring residence from which the gunfire was believed to have originated. The occupants complied with police orders and exited the home without incident. Though details regarding what led to the shooting are still under scrutiny, investigators have confirmed that all parties are cooperating with the investigation.
As for the suspect involved in the shooting, police have not currently released any identifying information, nor have they announced any charges. The public has been urged to come forward with any relevant information and encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers or the HPD Major Assaults Division with any tips they may possess to help possibly bring clarity to this unexpected act of violence.
