A 2-year-old girl died on Saturday night in southeast Houston after being accidentally hit by her brother’s pickup truck. According to Houston police, the family was unloading groceries at an apartment complex on Leonora Street when the incident happened shortly before 10 p.m. The girl ran into the parking lot while her brother was backing up the truck and was not seen, leading to the collision.
While the adult brother was preparing to leave, his younger sister walked into the parking area without being seen, resulting in the accident. "Preliminary information that we have and the initial investigation all suggests that this was just a terrible incident," Houston Police Sgt. Thomas Fendia said in a statement to KHOU. The brother is not facing charges but is considered at fault. The family called 911 and attempted first aid before the girl was taken to Texas Children's Hospital, where she later died. Police confirmed the crash was accidental and alcohol was not involved.
The Houston Police Department reported that a toddler was accidentally hit by a vehicle driven by a family member. Adults at the scene tried to help and brought the child back inside the house. The department’s crash reconstruction unit and DWI task force investigated the incident and confirmed the driver, the child’s brother, was not intoxicated. Sgt. Fendia said, “The preliminary information that we have and the initial investigation all suggests that this was just a terrible incident tonight.” The case remains under investigation, as mentioned by Houston Chronicle.
