A 19-year-old woman, Asia C. Law, has been arrested and charged with murder following a fatal shooting of a man who had assaulted a METRO bus driver in northwest Houston. According to a report by KHOU, the incident occurred near Antoine and Pinemont last Tuesday morning and was preceded by what appeared to be another act of violence involving Law a day earlier.
Law, who police believe managed to swiftly evade capture after the shooting, is said to have followed the man off the bus after witnessing the attack on the driver and subsequently discharged her firearm multiple times at the man as he was moving away from the scene. The victim was later pronounced dead after being transported to a hospital. "A male got on the bus and immediately started arguing with the driver and started hitting the driver," HPD Capt. Ryan Watson stated in an interview obtained by KHOU.
Law is also charged with aggravated assault from an incident the day before the shooting. In that event, she was reported to have brandished a firearm at a bus stop on Tidwell near Homestead, where she allegedly opened fire on a vehicle. The occupant of the vehicle had recognized Law from an earlier confrontation at a McDonald’s where Law was said to have thrown a cup of water in her face, according to court documents cited by ABC13.
At her court appearance concerning the aggravated assault charge, Law was recorded having a tense exchange with the coordinator. During this confrontation, the coordinator pointedly told her, "Ma’am, place her against the wall. I was not talking to you. Don’t go across the street acting like this. Take your hands out of your pockets." Her bond was set at $50,000, and she remains in custody, as mentioned by KHOU.
Furthermore, investigators learned Law reached out to an ex-girlfriend, claiming responsibility for the fatal shooting near Antoine. This detail came in the wake of police matching the description of the shooter to Law, based on surveillance video from the Antoine bus stop incident. The Houston Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding both shootings, with additional details yet to emerge.
