Last week's grim discovery of human remains behind a Statesville home has led to the identification of 50-year-old Kevin Scott Queen, as confirmed by the Iredell County Sheriff's Office.

Following the unsettling find last Wednesday by a potential homebuyer at a property on Newton Drive, an investigation was launched by local authorities – medical records helped establish the identity of the decomposed body, Queen was revealed to have died from natural causes according to the results of an autopsy conducted at North Carolina Baptist Hospital, both QC News and Iredell Free News reported.

The body was found by an individual who, thinking the house was vacant ventured to the rear and stumbled upon the remains near the driveway and promptly dialed 911, upon their arrival deputies confirmed the remains were indeed human; however, initially due to the advanced decomposition the on-site identification proved impossible, as stated in a WBTV report.

Detectives quickly ascertained that the house was not abandoned and was in fact Queen's residence, with Sheriff Darren Campbell noting in a news release that no foul play is suspected in Queen's death, an investigation had to be carried out to rule out any criminal involvement which it did, "From the appearance of the body, the person had been deceased for quite a while," Maj. Troy Miller with the sheriff's office told WBTV.
