
On Monday afternoon, a father and son found human remains while traveling on Banner Quaker Hill Road in Nevada City. The Nevada County Sheriff's Office said the remains were located on the side of the road where the pavement changes to dirt. The two immediately contacted authorities.
Deputies and detectives from the Nevada County Sheriff's Office quickly responded to the scene and confirmed the remains were human. Due to the advanced state of decomposition, the person's identity and cause of death are still unknown. The remains were sent to the Placer County Morgue, where an autopsy is scheduled for July 29.
According to the Nevada County Sheriff's Office on their Facebook page, no additional information about the ongoing death investigation will be released at this time. An update will be provided "following next of kin notification."
